Abstract
Aim:To study the histopathology(HPE),immunohistochemistry(IHC) and molecular biology in enucleated eyes secondary to ocular inflammation
Methods:Retrospective chart analysis of 13 enucleated globes secondary to intractable ocular inflammation due to multiple etiologies over a period of 10 years
Results:HPE in Acute Retinal necrosis showed chronic inflammatory cells with herpes virus inclusion body, with nested PCR positive for Varicella and CD3 positivity on IHC. T cell predominance was seen in both VKH(1 case)and Sympathetic Ophthalmia(6 cases),with VKH case showing non granulomatous uveitis with CD3,CD20 positivity and SO showing granulomatous and non granulomatous inflammation. Tuberculous etiology was seen in panuveitis(1case), Eales’ disease(2cases) and sclerouveitis(2cases) with detection of MTB genome by nested PCR for either or both MPB64 and IS6110
Conclusion:HPE,IHC and molecular analysis of enucleated globes can give an insight to etiopathogenesis of intraocular inflammation
