Abstract

A 64 year old female was brought to casualty with self inflicting injury by a sharp object. On clinical examination, the patient had bilateral periorbital swelling, subconjunctival haemorrhage, chemists and partial thickness scleral tear inferotemporally measuring 7 mm in the eye and a similar wound in the left eye measuring 2mm. This was managed conservatively with topical antibiotics , including moxifloxacin and chloramphenicol. The patient was on regular follow up with Siedels test being done at each follow up. After a month of follow up there was sloughing off of necrotic tissue, with healing of scleral tear with no residual thinning. This case highlights the possible role of conservative management in a partial thickness scleral tear.
