Abstract
We report fundus and optical coherence tomography findings in a series of patients with retinal astrocytoma . All patients had tuberous sclerosis, adenoma sebaceum and other systemic features associated with tuberous sclerosis. 10 retinal astrocytic hamartomas from 10 eyes of five patients were evaluated. Retinal astrocytic hamartoma is usually diagnosed based on its characteristic ophthalmoscopic features, but imaging of the tumor can provide assistance in establishing the diagnosis. Retinal astrocytic hamartoma shows characteristic features on OCT, including a gradual transition from a normal retina into an optically hyper-reflective mass with retinal disorganization, characteristic moth-eaten spaces, and optical shadowing posterior to the lesion.OCT is helpful for the diagnosis and follow-up of such rare tumors.
