Abstract
PURPOSE: To estimate the central foveal thickness(CFT) in patients of post-fever retinitis(PFR)
METHODS: 25 patients of PFR underwent Ophthalmic evaluation and Macular-cube OCT. These Patients were started on Tab. Doxycycline and Tab. Prednisolone. The CFT was assessed at 1 week and 1 month.
RESULTS: Of these 25 patients (41 eyes), 9(36%) were unilateral, 14(56%) were bilateral and 2(8%) were unilateral at presentation but progressed to bilateral. Etiology of 18(72%) patients was unknown, 5(20%) had bacterial and 2(8%) had viral etiology. 36(87.80%) eyes showed reduction in CFT of upto 400µm and 1(2.43%) upto 800µm, after 1 week of treatment. After 1 month, 26(63.41%) reduced upto 400µm, 9(21.95%) upto 800µm and 2(4.87%) upto 1200µm. 1 patient with Chikungunya showed the highest CFT(1424µm).
CONCLUSION: Post-fever retinitis is an infectious/para-infectious condition with retinal manifestations. Macular edema is one of the manifestations. OCT is used to assess the progression of edema.
