Abstract
PURPOSE: To report a case of traumatic hyphema in a Haemophiliac child
METHODS: A child of Haemophilia-A, presented with traumatic hyphema in RE; Vision PL positive, PR accurate; total hyphema with IOP 36mmHg and vitreous haemorrhage(VH) on B-scan. The Factor VIII level was 7%, hence FFP transfusion was started, along with antiglaucoma treatment, antibiotic-steroid e/d, cycloplegic e/d and oral steroids as conservative treatment.
RESULTS: After 1 week, the child’s vision improved to CF at CF, hyphema and VH reduced and IOP was 14mmHg. After 3 months, the child had developed Esotropia in the affected eye with vision of CF@3m and IOP 10mmHg. Hyphema and VH had resolved. Lens was cataractous and the child is planned for cataract surgery with pupilloplasty.
CONCLUSION: Haemophilia-A is bleeding disorder due to Factor VIII deficiency. The minimum Factor VIII levels of 50% is required for any surgical intervention. The child was thus considered for conservative treatment.
