Abstract
AIMS:1)To know the type of inflammation, spread, fungal species in specimens of POST COVID MUCORMYCOSIS patients who underwent surgery. METHODS & MATERIALS: This cross sectional study included 50 patients referred to tertiary care center VISAKHAPATNAM. specimen collected from ocular structures after surgery are subjected to histopathological examination. RESULTS: Orbital involvement seen in 72% patients ,28% non orbital involvement. In ocular specimens ,suppurative inflammation (30.55%) , granulomatous inflammation (16.66%) , and both seen in(52.77% )patients. Vascular invasion seen in (33.33%),neural invasion in(41.66% ),PERIOCULAR soft tissue invasion( 33.33%), Extra ocular muscle invasion seen in (16.66%)patients. broad aseptate irregularly branching fungal hyphae seen in all patients. CONCLUSION: MUCORMYCOSIS showed more neural invasion than vascular invasion . Mixed granulomatous and suppurative inflammations is common association seen in histopathological sections.
