Abstract
Purpose: To assess prevalence of non-strabismic binocular vision anomalies(NSBVA) in patients with dry eye and its association with personality traits.
Methods:110 patients with ocular discomfort,pain and fatigue underwent dry eye tests, personality trait assessment(EYSENCK questionnaire) & orthoptic evaluation. 59%(65) had NSBVA, given orthoptic exercise therapy and followed up till one year.
Results: Among 65 patients with NSBVA,12-accommodative insufficiency,15-convergence insufficiency, 10-divergence insufficiency,13-accommodative excess,15-fusional vergence dysfunction.Majority(70%) were in melancholic and choleric groups with strong association with NSBVA.68% had improvement in 3 months of orthoptic therapy,25% improved in 4-6 months,8% improved with dry eye therapy with 6 months of orthoptic therapy.
Conclusions: We found a significant higher incidence of NSBVA in patients with ocular discomfort and dry eye symptoms and corresponded to melancholic, choleric personality traits
