Abstract
Aim:To analyse the impact of covid -19 pandemic on the approach and treatment of ocular trauma
Methods: A retrospective study analyzing patients who presented to ophthalmology department or emergency department with ocular trauma during the COVID – 19 pandemic.Data on type,mode,place of injury,time of presentation,management both medical,surgical and post-operative outcome were analyzed
Results: A total of 52 cases of ocular trauma were analysed.The mean age was 30+/-5 years.30 Patients were males,22 females.
Of 52 cases,8 were corneoscleral tears,8 corneal tears,1 graft dehiscence post penetrating keratoplasty due to trauma,7 chemical injuries and 9 eye lid lacerations,10 blunt trauma, 5 orbital fractures and facial bone fractures , 4 cases of Traumatic optic neuropathy.
Conclusion: During the COVID – 19 pandemic we saw an increase in ocular trauma occurring at home.We also found higher number of cases presenting later to the hospital due the fear of the pandemic and lockdowns.
