Abstract
We observed 3 interesting cases of reduced vision following cataract surgery with 3 different causes of reduced vision. The first case was a case of vitreous haemorrhage in an otherwise uncomplicated
surgery where the source of the bleeding could not be determined. The second
case was development of a fibrovascular proliferation at the macula. The patient had a
nucleus drop intraoperatively which was managed successfully by a vitreoretinal surgeon
and the patient had satisfactory vision postoperatively for a
couple of weeks. The third case was a patient who following successful uncomplicated
cataract surgery developed a PCIOL drop, the haptic of which created retinal breaks and
near total retinal detachment which was successfully managed by vitreoretinal surgery. When the most commonly performed ocular surgery does not yield expected
results in terms of visual outcomes, we may sometimes have to consider less commonly
expected complications.
