Abstract
The eyes of children differ from those of adults and the influence of a normal developmental process on the choroidal structure can be evaluated by determining choroidal thickness (CT) in children of different age group. The aim of the study was to measure the subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) using Enhanced Depth Imaging (EDI) OCT and study its variation with age in paediatric population. CT was measured in 600 eyes of 300 children from 5-18 years with spectral domain EDI OCT by a single observer. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to assess the quantitative variables. A p value of < 0.05 was taken as significant for all statistical tests. The mean SFCT in this study was 378.76 ± 55.84 µm (range, 200-560 µm). CT significantly decreased with increasing age (p<0.001) and was negatively correlated with age in Pearson’s correlation analysis (r = - 0.193).The study concluded that age has a significant influence on CT and CT tends to decrease with growing age in paediatric population.
