Abstract
25 eyes (AL 24.7±2.7mm ) received treatment. Presenting features were VH (n=14), hypotony (n=7), RRD (n=7), FTMH (n=5), SRH (n=4) & retinal vascular occlusion (n=4). Retinal breaks (n=37) were identified in all patients. Mean presenting BCVA in group 1 (clear media, no RRD), 2 (VH without RRD) and 3 (RRD with/without VH) were logMAR 0.79±0.73, 1.82±0.78 & 2.13±0.59. Treatment included laser (n=7) & PPV (n=17). All patients had attached retina at last FU. Mean final BCVA was logMAR 0.59±0.79, 0.48±0.26 & 1.25±0.64. RRD was associated with larger AL. Significant VH was associated with superior perforation location, late recognition of perforation and >1 perforation sites.
Early recognition & intervention in eyes with inadvertent perforation leads to good outcome. Eyes with longer AL, superior & multiple perforations are at higher risk of developing complications like RRD/ VH. Complications like RRD, macular injury & vascular occlusions are risk factors for poor prognosis.
