Abstract
Introduction- Pterygium is a fibrovascular proliferation from bulbar conjunctiva encroaching onto cornea. Purpose is to observe recurrence after primary excision with Conjunctival limbal autograft(CLAU) or amniotic membrane grafting(AMG) & to arrest progression by early subconjunctival triamcinolone.
Method- It was a prospective, interventional study including 73 eyes of 69 patients. Study period was 1 year & 6 months postop follow up period. Primarily managed by excision with CLAU/AMG. After excision, histopathological samples sent. If early signs of recurrence seen, then managed by triamcinolone, if clinically significant, surgical excision done. Recurrence at 6 months was reported in 8.6% cases ,out of which 2 were given triamcinolone. Histopathology samples of 14 patients sent.
Conclusion-Increased vascularity & thickness in morphological grading with younger age group suggests role of vascular growth factors in its pathogenesis.
