Abstract

Background: comparative assessment of prism alternate cover test at near, distance, far distance before and after patching and prism adaptation test (PAT) in concomitant horizontal strabismus and its correlation with the postoperative results. Method: We conducted a 15-month, prospective, interventional study on a total of thirty subjects of concomitant horizontal strabismus. After recording, subjects were categorized into three groups: Non-Responders, Patch test responders & PAT responders. Result: The mean residual deviation obtained was 6.8±6.07Δ as we had considered PAT measurements but it would have been 11.5±7.09Δ if measurements taken before occlusion had been considered and 8.5±6.09Δ if measurements were taken after occlusion had been considered (p=0.02). Conclusion: We conclude and advocate that Patch test and prism adaptation test should be done in all subjects of concomitant squint so that we can deliver better and longer-term stable results to our subjects.
