Abstract

Purpose- To report a case of Homonymous hemianopia following covid-19 infection.

Summary: A 57 year old female patient had covid-19 infection in March-2019. While gradually recovering from the covid disease, she experienced cerebro-vascular stroke, left sided hemiplegia & an episode of tonic-clonic seizures. After recovery, she reported to us with chief complaint of defective left sided vision. The vision was RE-3/60 & LE-6/60 on Snellen’s chart with patient reading only right side of the chart, missing the left sided letters in all the lines. Color vision was defective. Visual field analysis showed left homonymous hemianopia. MRI showed large sub-acute/chronic infarct in right fronto-parieto-temporo-occpital lobes including basal ganglia with cortical laminar necrosis. Patient was given treatment in co-ordination with cardiologist and neurophysician, along with fresnel prisms for symptomatic relief.

Conclusion: Rare case of severe neuro-ophthalmological manifestation of covid-19.
