Abstract
Purpose: Orbital Cavernous Venous Malformation (OCVM) is a common benign primary orbital tumor in adults. Methods:Retrospective, interventional, consecutive case series with 80 patients. Results:OCVM was 5.4% of operated orbital tumors.Median age 44y(range 3-65y). Symptomatic were 70(87.5%), mean duration of 2y(range, 5d to 10y), with proptosis59(73.8%),diminished vision39(48.8%), palpable mass36(45%), disc edema20(25%), choroidal folds13(16.3%), strabismus11(13.8%), & ptosis6(7.5%). Mass was intraconal53(66.2%), with extraconal extension15(18,7%) or extraconal 10(12.5%), mostly supero-temporal 15(18.7%). Excisional biopsy with lateral orbitotomy in 41(51.3%), anterior orbitotomy 21(26.3%), or transconjunctival 18(22.5%). At the final follow up of 12.2+1.8y(range, 1.5 to 25y), all had local tumor control with no functional deficit. Conclusion: Accurate preoperative clinico-radiological diagnosis and tailored surgical technique helps in minimal disturbance of vital orbital structures.
