Abstract
Material and methods: A 7 year old patient presented with painless diminution of vision in right eye (RE) for one year. Ocular examination of RE revealed no perception of light with a total cataract while the left eye was normal with unaided vision of 6/6. B scan (RE) showed cataractous lens with old retinal detachment (RD). The patient presented five months later with (RE) pain, redness and yellowish exudates over pupil. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography of orbit was suggestive of persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous / old RD. Enucleation with ball implantation was done and eye ball was sent for histopathology examination (HPE).
Result: HPE revealed larva of cysticercosis and scolices in vitreous.
Conclusion: The presentation of OC is highly variable. Paediatric cataract needs thorough evaluation to rule out multiple differential diagnosis.
