Abstract
Cataract, is known to be a public health challenge and it is one of the most common eye diseases and a leading cause of blindness in the world, accounting for approximately 50% or 20 million people of the global burden of blindness. The objective of the present study was to assess the refractive outcomes after phacoemulsification and examine the factors(age, sex, grade of cataract, first or second eye operated, ocular co-morbidities, axial length, type of IOL, AC depth and diabetic patients) which caused a deviation from the target postoperative refraction. The need for this study is to know and overcome the gap between the achieved and target vision so as to satisfy the requirements of the patients. 223 eyes that underwent phacoemulsification for treatment of cataract were included in the study. The distribution of patients according to Post op refractive error showed that, majority (86.99%) of patients had error ≤ ±0.5D while only 11 (4.93%) had error of > ±1.0 D.
