Abstract
PURPOSE:To assess corneal collagen distribution pre & post LASIK surgery with Polarization sensitive Optical Coherence Tomography(PS-OCT)
METHODS:45 eyes underwent PS-OCT: pre & post LASIK at 1,3 & 6 months. Phase retardation(PR) enface maps (11mm) were generated. Zonal analysis was performed in annular zones from centre to periphery
RESULTS:PR maps of normal eyes showed preferential arrangement of collagen fibril structures, with least retardation in the apex and increasing radially towards the periphery. At 1-
month, LASIK eyes showed abrupt disruption in this arrangement, due to ongoing
stromal remodelling.38 LASIK eyes showed close to normal arrangement from 3-
months. 7 LASIK eyes showed deviation from the regular arrangement which appeared
to be independent of the refractive error & corneal tomography.
CONCLUSION:Transient changes in collagen arrangement were assessed using PS-OCT. PSOCT can be reliable tool to study & observe corneal wound healing process post operatively.
