Abstract
Purpose: To describe the scavenging role of ASOCT in the clinical management of post-traumatic strabismus.
Subject/Methods: A 17-year-old patient with long-standing exotropia (at least 60 prisms for 6 years) following trauma was evaluated on slit lamp and ASOCT. The muscle location was identified using ASOCT and based on that a surgical plan was devised to optimally manage the case.
Results: On slit lamp, the medial rectus (MR) muscle was not visualized subconjunctivally. On MRI, the anterior portion was again not deciphered. Hence, ASOCT was used. It showed MR corresponding features at 11.475 mm from the angle. Intraoperatively the MR was discovered to be slipped and was noted at 13 millimeters from the outer limbus. The muscle was advanced and the lateral was recessed to achieve optimal correction at day 1 and slight residual exotropia at 6 months.
Conclusions: In post-traumatic muscle injuries, ASOCT can be used as a scavenging tool for optimal management of ocular misalignment.
