Abstract

Glaucoma is a large group of disorders, characterized by widely diverse clinical manifestations. Overlapping between finding seen in those with glaucoma and without it is great. Differentiation on a single examination is difficult until the damage is moderate to advance. Evaluation of optic disc is central to the diagnosis and management of a variety of illnesses including glaucoma.

The presentation describes various causes of nonglaucomatous cupping and also describes an approach to recognize glaucomatous from nonglaucomatous cupping. It is important for clinicians to consider all the clinical information in making a diagnosis and not mere the optic disc morphology, in order to avoid either visual impairment or unnecessary treatment and follow-up burden.
