Abstract
A 31 year old male presented with pain redness and diminution of vision in his right eye of 4 days duration. There was history of covishield vaccination over his left shoulder 5 days prior to presentation, followed by a single febrile episode on the next day which responded to oral paracetamol and associated diminution of vision. His presenting visual acuity was hand motions with hypopyon uveitis and a yellow glow clinically. A provisional diagnosis of endogenous endophthalmitis was made and the patient was taken up for pars plana vitrectomy with intravitreal antibiotics. Intraoperatively, there was visualization of a macular subretinal abscess. Fungal smear of vitreous tap showed presence of Septate hyphae, following which the patient was started on oral voriconazole with good resolution of vitreous haze and the subretinal abscess. Healthcare workers should be vary of this potential side effect and be careful of cold chain maintenance and appropriate vaccine delivery.
