Abstract
Introduction: To describe the imaging findings of an atypical case series of optic disc edema presenting along with arterial occlusions.
Results: Seven patients, mean age of 47.2 years presented with sudden painless unilateral loss of vision in one eye. All patients had RAPD, optic disc edema of varying degrees and angiographically evident ipsilateral retinal artery obstruction. Two patients had central retinal artery occlusion, three patients had cillioretinal artery occlusion and another two had branch retinal artery occlusion with all patients having the ischemic retinal whitening in the relevant artery distribution. Relevant and thorough systemic evaluation was performed to investigate and treat the underlying etiology as well as to rule out giant cell arteritis.
Conclusion: Retinal artery occlusions can be associated with optic disc edema in the absence of outright central retinal vein occlusion, giant-cell arteritis, and even without a causative etiology.
