Abstract
Purpose: To investigate changes in FAZ and retinal superficial capillary plexus (SCP) vessel density in diabetic retinopathy (DR) using OCT-A. Methods: An observational cross-sectional study done on 60 eyes of 42 patients with DR who underwent OCT-A investigation. Measurement of maximum horizontal and vertical diameter of FAZ along with vessel density of retinal SCP were taken and descriptive analysis done. Results: Mean maximum horizontal diameter of FAZ in mild NPDR eyes (n=10) was 0.57mm, in moderate NPDR (n=15) 0.63mm, in severe NPDR eyes (n=15) 0.68mm and in PDR eyes (n=20) 0.69mm. Similarly, mean maximum vertical diameter of FAZ were 0.57mm, 0.65mm, 0.70mm and 0.74mm respectively. Mean retinal SCP vessel density was 19.02, 16.05, 16.66, 14.92 mm/mm² in mild, moderate, severe NPDR and PDR eyes respectively. Conclusions: OCT-A shows increasing horizontal and vertical diameters of FAZ along with decreasing vessel density in retinal SCP as the severity of DR increases.
