Abstract
AIM: Branch retinal vein occlusion is commonly encountered in older patients with vascular disease. We report a similar case in 55yr female. METHODS: A 55yr female presented with diminution of vision in both eyes for 10days. RESULTS: On ocular examination her vision was 6/24 in right eye and finger count close to face in left eye.
On anterior segment examination posterior subcapsular cataract was found in right eye and posterior polar cataract in left eye. On fundoscopy branch retinal occlusion with macular edema was found in left eye and right eye was normal. Her blood pressure was 180/100 mmHg. On blood examination her serum homocysteine was raised. CONCLUSIONS: Branch retinal vein occlusion may indicate the necessity of a hematologic evaluation to determine possible compounding cause.
