Abstract

Tarsal ectropion is unusual form of lid malposition in which the entire lid is everted.The cause is disinsertion of lower-eyelid retractors,horizontal laxity and lateral canthal tendon disinsertion.we evaluated a combination of 3 procedures which address all the factors in pathogenesis.The target is to restore acceptable anatomy,function and cosmesis with no recurrence.

On 4 eyes we performed full length spindle excision of conjunctiva 4 mm from the lid margin, with a vertical dimension of 4 mm and closure by 6-0 polyglycolate sutures.3 classical double-armed inverting sutures of 4-0 polyglycolate were passed from conjunctival aspect and emerged on the skin aspect closure to the fornix.Lateral canthopexy or lateral tarsal strip was done to address the lid laxity.

There was no over-correction, under correction or recurrence.Combination of the 3 procedures gives extremely gratifying results.A large multicentric study may be useful,in view of the comparative rarity of the condition.
