Abstract

Aim:We hereby report 15 cases of acute onset esotropiadue to excessive near work.Material methods:The data was collected from Aug 2020-Aug 2021from 15 cases reporting as acute deviation due to prolonged near work during pandemic.The average age was7+- 3.5(range 4-20 years),the mean angle was35+-15.5ET(Range 15-60PD),hours on mobile/laptop(Range4-16hours/day).Brain(MRI) were unremarkable .All patients had supression of respective eye with nil /gross stereopsis withTNO test.Results:Reduction inesodeviation were noted in patients after refraining from smartphone use, a medial rectus recession and lateral rectus recession was performed in five patients ,six patients received Botox injection with considerable remnant esodeviation. Postoperative exams showed orthophoria with good stereoacuity in these patients.Conclusion:Decreasing time on online virtual classes can decrease the degree of esodeviation patients,deviation can be successfully managed with surgical correction.
