Abstract
Aim—To report development of FTMH post RD surgery and outcomes of macular hole surgery.
Design-Retrospective interventional consecutive case series.
Methods-986 eyes underwent Retinal detachment surgeries (Buckling surgery,vitrectomy,Pneumatic retinopexy for RRD between 2015 to 2021.Case records and SD OCT images were evaluated retrospectively.
Result-4 eyes developed full thickness macular hole.Two eyes developed after buckling,other 2 eyes after vitrectomy surgery.The mean time to macular hole diagnosis postRD surgery was 1.5 months.All patients underwent macular hole repair by pars plana vitrectomy with BBG dye assisted ILM peeling.Mean baseline visual acuity after macular hole development was hand movements in 2 eyes,1.77logMAR in other 2 eyes.Mean post op visual acuity was 1.0,0.77 and 0.47logMAR at month 1,3and 6 respectively.Macular hole closed in all cases with Type 1 closure
Conclusions- Macular holes following RD surgeries is very rare complication with incidence of 0.4%.
