Abstract
The infantile nystagmus syndrome usually begins in infancy and may or may not be associated with visual sensory system abnormalities. This clinical entity is commonly associated with esotropia. Nystagmus degrade visual acuity by reducing the stability of fixation and lessening foveation time. Surgery is the main stay of the treatment to reduce the nystagmus in the fixating eye and strabismus in the non fixing eye . This procedure corrects the ocular deviation , resolves the abnormal face turn and also improves nystagmus. Here we report a case of long standing infantile nystagmus syndrome in 15 year old female large angle constant esotropia(35 BO) with horizontal jerk nystagmus and significant face turn, binocular vision of 6/24 with no limitation in ocular movements. This case was managed by medial rectus recession and lateral rectus resection surgery in the same eye and patient has stable alignment even after 2 years of follow up.
