Abstract
Aim:To study the profile, risk factors and management of infantile strabismus. Methods:Prospective observational study where patients under the age of one year were included.A detailed and meticulous history was noted and an ophthalmological examination was performed. Results:Males and females were equally affected.Esotropia was the most common strabismus.Prematurity, hypermetropia, and anisometropia had increased odds for developing esotropia, while delivery by caesarean section, infantile seizures, parental consanguinity, and myopia had increased odds for developing exotropia.29 patients underwent a surgical correction and the change in ocular deviation was statistically significant. Conclusions:The hospital prevalence of infantile strabismus in our cohort was found to be 2.58%.Esotropia is found to be 2/3rd commoner compared to exotropia. Specific risk factors for the development of strabismus must be kept in mind and awareness must be created among paediatricians for close observation
