Abstract
RTAs are an important cause of vision loss in adults. Here we report a case of blunt ocular trauma that led to scleral perforation, extrusion of the lens-bag complex.
A 53-year-old man presented to ED with sudden onset of pain, redness and loss of vision in the right eye after fall from a motorcycle. His vision was PL with bulbar conjunctival laceration nasally. The crystalline lens was dislocated into the conjunctival cul-de-sac temporally. A full-thickness scleral laceration was found intraop-12 mm long, 2 mm posterior to the temporal limbus nearly concentric to it, which was repaired. At 2-month follow-up the BCVA in the right eye had recovered to 6/24 with +11.5D Sph. The occurrence of traumatic phacocele with subconjunctival dislocation of the lens has been previously reported. However, reports of an intact lens-bag complex lying free on the ocular surface at presentation were not found. Prompt and meticulous repair despite severe blunt trauma may result in good visual recovery.
