Abstract
Purpose: To highlight the role and efficacy of customized phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) in the treatment of recurrent corneal erosions. Methods: 10 cases of RCE syndrome presented with redness &profuse watering. Conventional medical therapy failed, so customized trans-epithelial phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) was planned using the Schwind Amaris RS1050. Customized PTK avoids ablation of normal tissue and refractive surprises. Ablation was planned after measuring horizontal & vertical dimensions of the area affected. Customized trans epithelial PTK decentered to exact area was performed with pupil tracking & cyclotorsion compensation. Results: Complete resolution of symptoms was noted in subsequent visits with no refractive surprises, and minimal change in corneal thickness. Conclusion: Customized PTK is a safe and effective technique for the management of RCE syndrome in cases refractory to conventional medical treatment, with effective visual outcomes.
