Abstract
Aim: To describe the morphology of vitreous cells in different clinical scenarios.
Methods: Cross-sectional study of 18 eyes to study the vitreous morphology on slit-lamp biomicroscopy whose images were documented during the presentation.
Results: Different etiologies present with various vitreous morphology. Vitreous hemorrhage clinically presents with uniformly distributed small RBC’s posterior to the lens. Fuch’s uveitis presents with fine vitreous debris with stellate KP’s. Retinal dystrophies are characterized by fine pigmented anterior vitreous cells. Tobacco dust is seen in retinal detachment. Large white irregular fluffy cells in the vitreous are seen in fungal endophthalmitis. Large clumps of white cells are characteristic of Masquerade uveitis syndrome.
Conclusion: Proper clinical examination of anterior vitreous cells on slit-lamp biomicroscopy can give a clue to the diagnosis.
