Abstract

Aim- Study association of vitamin D deficiency in patients with non infectious anterior uveitis.

Materials and methods- Patients with non infectious anterior uveitis of age group 20-65years and age matched controls were evaluated between June2020 to May2021. Detailed eye examinations were done and serum vitamin D levels were measured in all patients and controls and compared. All differences associated with p value of ≤0.05 were considered statistically significant.

Results- Total 119 eyes of 59 patients with anterior uveitis (31- first episode and 28 – recurrent attack) and 60 controls were evaluated. Vitamin D levels were significantly low in patients with anterior uveitis as compared to controls (p=0.027). Patients with recurrent attack had more hypovitaminosis than patients with first attack. Severity of uveitis was associated with further low vitamin D levels (odds ratio 1.15).

Conclusion- Vitamin D levels were significantly low in patients with immune mediated anterior uveitis.
