Abstract

Impaction of non metallic foreign body in the orbit is a common civilian injury. Longstanding impaction of FB in the orbital wall as well as in the soft tissue of the orbit may cause risk of damage to the eyeball, muscle and cranial nerves which may cause movement disorder, vision loss. These study shows a series of 5 cases of which all the cases had accidental impacted nonmetallic FB with preserved vision in the affected eye. 4 cases had discharging sinus and orbital cellulites with abscess formation. After excluding the possibility of metallic FB by meticulous history taking and radiography. MRI of the orbit done for the confirmation, better delineation , location, extension of the FB. Minimally invasive orbitotomies through different approaches were undertaken and the foreign bodies were removed. In conclusion, orbital foreign bodies pose difficult diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Organic FBs are poorly tolerated, should be removed
