Abstract
AIM: To assess the knowledge and awareness among parents regarding intraocular malignancies in children and its potential correlation with demographic and socioeconomic factors.
METHOD:A cross sectional analytical study over a period of one year in the form of a validated questionnaire given to parents attending the OPD. Parents’ knowledge was assessed using a scoring system and correlations were derived between knowledge score, socio economic and demographic factors to find out whether any statistically significant difference is present between the various study groups.
RESULTS: 250 parents were questioned out of which maximum received zero score based on their knowledge. None of the participants had any knowledge regarding genetic testing and predictability of these diseases and only 2% knew about the chances of siblings having higher incidence. Further results have been mentioned and discussed in the full paper.
