Abstract
Introduction
The study evaluated indications and visual outcome of retropupillary fixation of iris claw lens in aphakic eyes at primary fixation in camp MSICS surgeries.
Material and method
Retrospective case series of 144 eyes with retro-pupillary iris claw lens fixation during January 2017- December 2020.
Result
32.64% eyes had predisposing factors like Phacodonesis, Zonular dehiscence and Subluxation. Major intraoperative factors were Subluxation (36.80%), Capsular Bag delivery (31.94%) and Posterior Capsular Rent (25%). Average post-operative BCVA was 0.50 logMAR as compared to the average pre- operative BCVA of 1.30.
Conclusion
Alternative options like ACIOLs and SFIOLs are associated with corneal decompensation and steep learning curve respectively. With minimal post-operative complications, less surgical time and fast learning curve, iris claw lens still remains the chief solution in inadequate capsular support in high volume setup, especially among anterior segment surgeons.
