Abstract
PURPOSE-To report a case of Congenital pedunculated corneal dermoid of Left eye and to explain the need for its early intervention.
Design-Descriptive
Method-3 month old female baby presented with the left eye corneal dermoid.CTscan of orbit showed well defined exophytic lesion from the anterior aspect of sclerocorneal lining of left eye.Later patient lost follow up and was brought after 6 months.Visual evoked potential(VEP) test was done, which showed poorly formed wave forms in left eye and well formed, reproducible waves in right eye suggestive of left sided optic neuropathy
Result- Parents were explained about poor visual prognosis of left eye and adviced Left eye evisceration with implant and customized ocular prosthesis for cosmetic purpose. But Evisceration was put on hold for normal growth of socket till the baby is about 2years old
Conclusion-Dermoids covering the whole cornea is very rare.If its diagnosed late or if not treated early, leads to poor visual prognosis of eye
