Abstract
Purpose
To report a rare case of Strabismus fixus in which the eye is anchored in a position of extreme adduction which was operated with muscle transplantation surgery
Methods
A 27-year-old female presented with inward deviation of right eye since birth. Visual acuity was 1/60 in RE ,6/6 in LE. HCRT was >45° in RE. On cover-uncover test, there was no redressal movement in RE. There was limitation of dextroversion ,dextroelevation, dextrodepression. Forced duction test was positive. CT orbits
showed thin 0.8mm band of right lateral rectus.
We performed Medial rectus recession, Lateral rectus resection and Transplanted the resected piece of lateral rectus to medial rectus. On POD 1, HCRT was central giving a good cosmetic outlook.
Conclusion
Strabismus fixus is a rare condition which can progress over several years to the end stage of large angle fixed esotropia. This case also highlightens the importance of early presentation for squint correction to prevent strabismic amblyopia.
