Abstract
Aim :- A comparative study of Incidence of ROP between non-tribal and tribal neonates admitted and screened for ROP at Tertiary care centre.
Material & methods :- Non-tribal and tribal premature babies were screened for ROP under T.A. using IO with 28D lens in S.N.C.U.
Results & discussion:- 180 premature babies with risk factors (28-34 weeks) were screened for ROP in the study over a period of 1 year.ROP staging was done.ROP (any stage) was noted in 6 of 95 (6.3%) nontribal & 10 of 85(11.7%) of tribal babies.Significant difference in ROP incidence was noted (p<0.05). Conclusion:- With advancing Neonatal care & better screening protocols, survival of premature babies have increased resulting in apparent rise in ROP incidence.Study shows significant difference b/w ROP incidence in non tribal vs tribal population of Jharkhand which may be attributed to various risk factors like poor general health, heriditary blood dyscrasias, poor ANC followup, etc seen in tribals of Jharkhand.
