Abstract
Patients of post traumatic non-resolving periorbital cellulitis are often encountered. One of the common cause is retained foreign body. Metallic foreign bodies easily detected on CT images, misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis rarely occur, nor does orbital infection while Non – metallic foreign body (e.g. wooden) are notorious for remaining quiescent and can present as non-resolving periorbital cellulitis . This is a retrospective observational tertiary hospital based case series done from March 2019 to September 2020. 14 patients(12 male, 2 female) with alleged eyelid trauma with non metallic foreign body from day 1 to upto 6 months of initial injury were included. We had found wooden stick in 9 cases, stones chips in 3 cases and glasses in 2 cases. Small entry wound, discharging sinus, intraorbital mass gives clue of retained non-metallic foreign body. Diagnostic dilemma is often there and early diagnosis and treatment can prevent vision loss and life-threatening complications.
