Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the astigmatic correction with arcuate keratotomy (AK) in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS).
Methods: Prospective interventional case series involving 26 eyes of 22 patients with cataract and corneal astigmatism of ≥0.50 D who underwent FLACS with AK. Pre-operative visual acuity, keratometry, corneal tomography and biometry were recorded. In the post-operative period, visual acuity and subjective refraction were recorded. Statistical analysis was done by SPSS.
Results: Mean pre-operative and post-operative corneal astigmatism were 1.38±0.53 D and 0.30±0.25 D, respectively, the change being significant (p=0.00064). Paired opposite AKs were associated with better outcome as compared with single AKs (r=0.1186). AKs in the 9mm and 8mm zones gave similar outcomes, as they did in various axes and arcuate lengths.
Conclusion: AKs are an effective way of reducing post-operative astigmatism in FLACS. Paired AKs are associated with better outcome.
