Abstract
We report a case of a 25-year-old male who was diagnosed with pachydermoperiostosis, presenting with itching in both the eyes with bilateral eyelid thickening and drooping of eyelids. On examination, giant papillary reaction was noted in the upper tarsal conjunctiva, bilateral trichomegaly with increased eyelid laxity. The patient was treated with topical steroids, topical antihistamines, and oral antibiotics.
Floppy eyelids have rarely been reported in association with pachydermoperiostosis. Patients present with mechanical ptosis resulting from markedly thickened eyelids. Patients can also present as recurrent or chronic ocular surface irritation and chronic papillary conjunctivitis of upper palpebral conjunctiva from severe laxity.
Here we stress the importance of recognizing this condition and discuss the other systemic and ocular manifestations that are associated with FES and the treatment modalities available.
