Abstract
Aim Study aims to investigate the incidence and prognostic factors for visual outcome in patients with traumatic cataract following cataract surgery. Methods Prospective hospital-based study was performed between February 2019 to February 2020. Age, sex, preoperative vision, postoperative vision at 3 – 6 months, Injury type, wound location and posterior segment involvement were assessed. Results 47 eyes of 47 patients were studied including 42 males and 5 females. Preoperative vision in 47 eyes was >6/60.Postoperative vision in 25 eyes ,14 eyes and 8 eyes were 6/6 – 6/18, 6/24 – 6/60 , > 6/60 respectively. Corneal opacity and posterior segment involvement were the main causes of poor visual acuity. Conclusion Prognostic factors like initial visual acuity, injury type, wound location and posterior segment involvement played a vital role in achieving final visual acuity. Absence of posterior segment involvement and corneal scar away from visual axis leads to satisfactory visual results.
