Abstract
To evaluate efficacy & safety of three distinct surgical procedures for secondary IOL implantation without capsular support: Iris-claw lens, flanged trans-scleral fixated IOLs (Yamane technique) & sutureless trans-scleral hook IOL fixation (Carlevale IOL).
Retrospective study compares 3 different sutureless IOL implantation techniques in patients with no capsular support. Outcomes were analyzed in 24 eyes.
Study had 13 iris-claw, 6 flanged trans-scleral fixated,& 5 Carlevale IOLS.
Mean BCVA improved from 0.49±0.19 to 0.19±0.10 at 3 months follow up. (p<0.05). Post-Op BCVA was similar in all groups with no intergroup differences. Three eyes had a raised IOP > 25 mmHg; 2 eyes (8%) presented a dislocated IOL; 4 eyes had corneal edema; 3 eyes had irregular pupil ; 2 eyes had VH; 7 eyes had astigmatism > 3D.
All three surgical procedures can be considered adequate to correct aphakia in patients without capsular support with significant improvement in visual acuity and low complication.
