Abstract
Purpose-To report a case of Bilateral Retinal Vein occlusion (RVO) as initial presentation of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).Method- 45yr old male presented with sudden painless blurring of vision Rt eye. On evaluation, was diagnosed with bilateral RVO with CRVO in one eye & Macular BRVO in other eye. On subsequent evaluation, he had pancytopenia and bone marrow biopsy confirmed diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Thereafter, Induction chemotherapy was started by hematologist. Result- On initiation of chemotherapy, resolution of retinal hemorrhage and resorption of macular edema with improvement in vision was noted in both eyes. Conclusion- RVOs can be an unusual manifestation in young patients with myelo-proliferative disorders like acute myeloid leukemia. Therefore, Ophthalmologist needs to be more vigilant in early detection & timely referral to physician/ hematologist for definitive treatment.
