Abstract
Our study included patients with primary senile cataract who underwent phacoemulsification with posterior chamber intraocular lens(IOL) implantation. IOL power calculation was done using SRK/T and Barrett universal II (BU-II) formulae. A sample of 100 eyes enrolled in the study was divided into two groups based on their axial lengths: Group 1(AL <22mm, N-40) and Group 2(AL 22-24.5, N-60). In groups 1 and 2, BU-II gave the lowest mean absolute error on postoperative day(POD)1(0.35±0.27;0.27±0.41), POD7(0.27±0.25;0.22±0.25) and POD30( 0.18±0.27;0.22±0.28). In Group 1, the difference in the mean absolute errors was statistically significant on POD1 , POD 7 and POD 30 (p value < 0.05) while in Group 2, the difference was significant on POD7 and POD30(p value < 0.05). Hence we infer that predictive accuracy of BU-II formula is superior to SRK/T formula among eyes of short and normal axial length. Keywords : Barrett universal II formula, SRK/T , axial length.
