Abstract

To report a rare case of Ocular Graft Versus Host Disease in a patient who underwent bone marrow stem cell transplantation. A 55 year old male presented with history of severe irritation and redness in both eyes for 2 months. He has previous history of undergoing chemotherapy followed by bone marrow transplantation four years back for Myelodysplastic syndrome. On examination ,visual acuity was 6/36 improving to 6/24 in right eye and 6/36 improving to 6/18p in left eye. Anterior segment examination showed bilateral epithelial defect with corneal thinning in the paracentral area. Posterior segment examination was normal. Schirmer’s test was 0 and 1 in right and left eye respectively.Patient was treated with frequent half hourly instillation of lubricant eye drops and gel along with antibiotic ointment.Patient was referred to hematologist for further management. There was stabilization of ocular surface after increasing the dose of immunosuppressant and surplus use of lubricants.
