Abstract
We performed a prospective, prevalence based cross-sectional study over 250 students over the period from October, 2017 to November, 2019. We obtained demographic details, brief history and calculated OSDI score, and we also did torch light and slit lamp examination for each student. We obtained history regarding VDU usage and contact lens use. We performed schirmer’s test and TFBUT test on all students.
Chi square test was applied to establish a relationship between various risk factor and prevalence of MGD. We found that the prevalence of MGD was 19.44% amongst students. Also the rate of prevalence was higher in girls compared to boys. Contact lens use was a contributing factor for MGD. VDU usage and MGD were not found to have any significant correlation
We were able to find that MGD was prevalent in young population and hence regular screening should be carried out for MGD prevalence in young population as it can be a cause of dry eye disease.
