Abstract
Purpose:This study analyses epithelial and disciform HSV keratitis to provide data on the possible pattern of the HSV ocular disease and its recurrences.Materials & Methods:This is a hospital based prospective study of 100 eyes involving 85 patients of viral involvement of cornea (54 females and 31 males), All patients underwent meticulous slit lamp bio-microscopy.All diagnosis was made clinically and all were given specific treatment.Result: Majority (66.5%) of the patients belonged to 20 to 40 years.Females were more commonly affected.Bilateral herpetic keratitis was found in 17.64% patients. In this study most common lesion was epithelial keratitis (56.5%).Among patients of epithelial keratitis, superficial punctate keratitis was most common. Conclusion:Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation and slit lamp bio-microscopy after fluorescein staining.HSV keratitis is a major cause of infectious blindness in developing countries.Prompt intervention could prevent visual impairment.
