Abstract
The study was the first of its kind done in India. The aim was to compare the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) based Retinal Nerve Fibre Layer and Ganglion Cell Layer layer thickness at the posterior pole, and total macular thickness of women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome vs healthy reproductive age group females. The study included 110 eyes of 55 diagnosed cases of PCOS (study group) and 110 eyes of 55 healthy reproductive age group (15-49 yrs) females (control group). All patients underwent a detailed ophthalmological evaluation followed by an OCT to measure their retinal thicknesses. The average peripapillary RNFL thickness at the disc was higher in the inferior quadrant as compared to the superior quadrant. The mean macular RNFL thickness and GCL+, GCL ++ thickness at and macula followed the same trend. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups.
